Founded in the early 1970’s as a partnership, the firm has grown and matured over the years into a professional corporation serving four western states. In January of 1980, we re-organized forming a professional corporation and have operated as such under a Montana charter ever since.  We have also attained corporate licensing in Wyoming, and North and South Dakota. Spectrum functions as a professional corporation under Montana Law with Gary R. Levine, AIA as CEO and Kathleen L. Armstrong, AIA as  President.

With extensive experience in public and private architecture, Spectrum designs a diversity of facilities that span from K-12 schools, and colleges and universities to civic, corporate, religious, and residential. For almost three decades, Spectrum has helped generate community support and develop bond issue campaign strategies for more than 62 school districts, plus cities and counties throughout Montana. We specialize in Additions, Renovations & Remodeling directed towards excellence in design, budget management, and client satisfaction. This commitment to client satisfaction and responsible design has been instrumental in the success Spectrum has experienced for the past 35 years.

Our re-organization in 1980 initiated a gradual and continuous transition in management. Since our founding as a sole proprietorship in the early 70’s, the firm has modified its name to reflect and formalize the changing leadership. Gary R. Levine, AIA has been the guiding force through the years and has steered our firm to its present status and reputation as a leading architectural firm in Montana. In 2002 Kathleen L. Armstrong, AIA joined the firm and became a full partner and owner in 2004, thus making Spectrum one of a handful of women-owned architectural firms in the region.

Also in 2004, Spectrum instituted cutting-edge computer Building Information Modeling (BIM).  All of our projects are designed in a 3-Dimensional domain; it is our office standard for all our projects.

Spectrum professionals are continually training to stay up to speed on the latest design technology and techniques for conventional, universal, and sustainable design. We are LEED Accredited Professionals with many years of designing energy efficient buildings. We have been emphasizing energy efficiency and sustainable designs since the 1970’s. One key to our continual success is responsible design solutions; Spectrum provides efficient designs with quality materials for durability, low maintenance, and cost effectiveness.
